A property of the item called message class determines the form the item uses. This application can help you to change the message class for incoming messages from the default to custom one. For example, you create a custom Outlook form with IPM.Note.Sales message class and you need that each message e-mailed to your "Sales" mail-enabled public folder will be converted to your custom form (IPM.Note.Sales) immediately after receiving to display information in a Sales custom form. See a good article that describes an Exchange 5.X - based application to support group mailbox functionality: Implementing a Group Mailbox or Public Folder.
Using ChangeMessageClassPF application you can implement the same functionality in your Exchange 2007 Server based system.

The application also can delete permanently the incoming messages associated with a certain message class. For example, you can delete all nondelivery reports whose message class is Report.IPM.Note.NDR before delivering them to the certain public folder.

The application is an Exchange store event sink.

On your Exchange Server 2007 computer:

  1. Create a new mail-enabled public folder named PFCMCTEST1. Create a new mail-enabled public folder named PFCMCTEST2.
  2. Create or select a mailbox-enabled user account (let's name it "CMCAdmin") that is a member of the Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups. That account must have full permissions on the Public Folder store.
Open Exchange Management Shell and execute
    Get-PublicFolderDatabase | add-adpermission -user CMCAdmin -accessRights GenericAll
  3. Log on as CMCAdmin to your Exchange 2007 Server computer.
  4. Create C:\Program Files\CMCPF\ directory. Download archive file to C:\Program Files\CMCPF\ directory and extract all files.
  5. Run C:\Program Files\CMCPF\ChangeMessageClassPFSetup.exe. Click Install button in COM+ object frame. Make sure the Rules frame contains
    " IPM.Note | convert to | IPM.Post "
    string in the list.
  6. In Per-Public Folder registration frame select PFCMCTEST1 folder (see step #1) and mark it. Click CHANGE button. The list will be refreshed. Make sure that PFCMCTEST1 is still checked.
  7. Make sure that PFCMCTEST2 public folder is unchecked in the list.
  8. Click the Exit button.
