A property of the item called message class determines the form the item uses. This application can help you to change the message class for incoming messages from the default to custom one. For example, you create a custom Outlook form with IPM.Note.Sales message class and you need that each message e-mailed to your Exchange Sales mailbox will be converted to your custom form (IPM.Note.Sales) immediately after receiving to display information in a Sales custom form. Using ChangeMessageClass application you can implement the same functionality in your Exchange 2007 Server based system.
The application also can delete permanently the incoming messages associated with a certain message class. For example, you can delete all nondelivery reports whose message class is Report.IPM.Note.NDR before delivering them to the user's mail box.
The application is an Exchange store event sink.
On your Exchange Server 2007 computer:
1. Create a new mailbox-enabled user account. Mailbox alias must be CMCTEST.
You should create this account for test purposes only, so you can delete it after you satisfy yourself with the fact that the application is actually works.
2. Create another mailbox-enabled user account (let's name it "CMCAdmin") that is a member of the Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups. That account must have full permissions on the all mailbox stores. Open Exchange Management Shell and execute
Get-MailboxDatabase | add-adpermission -user CMCAdmin -accessRights GenericAll
3. Log on as CMCAdmin.
4. Create C:\Program Files\CMC2007\ directory. Download ChangeMessageClass2007-Demo.zip archive file to C:\Program Files\CMC2007\ directory and extract all files.
5. Run C:\Program Files\CMC2007\ChangeMessageClassSetup.exe. Check "Install COM+ object" checkbox. Click Install button in COM+ object frame. Make sure the Rules frame contains
" IPM.Note | convert to | IPM.Post "
string in the list.
6. In Per-Mailbox registration frame select CMCTEST mailbox (see step #1) and mark it. Click CHANGE button. The list will be refreshed. Make sure that CMCTEST is still checked.
7. Click the Exit button.
If you wish to register ChangeMessageClass store-wide, use the list in Store-wide registration frame to select/deselect the appropriate mailbox store.
We assume you have rule that looks like

1. Using Outlook, open the CMCTEST mailbox. Navigate to Inbox folder. Create a custom view that shows Message Class column. To do that open View menu. In Outlook XP/2003 select Arrange By > Current View > Customize Current View... In Outlook 2007 select Current View > Customize Current View... Then click Fields... button. Select "All message fields" from the list on bottom left corner of the form. Select "Message Class" field in the Available fields: list and press Add button. Click OK button to close Show Fields window. Click OK button to close View Summary window.
2. Send a message to CMCTEST.
3. Make sure the message you just sent is placed in the Inbox and its Message Class is set to IPM.Post
4. When finished, you can delete the CMCTEST account and mailbox.
We have tested ChangeMessageClass with Outlook 2003/2007 and Exchange 2007 Server SP1 on MS Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 edition SP2.
1. Start C:\Program Files\CMC2007\ChangeMessageClassSetup.exe
2. Uncheck all items in the list in Per-Mailbox registration frame and click Change button
3. Uncheck all items in the list in Store-wide registration frame and click Change button
4. Click Uninstall button in COM+ object frame
5. Press Exit button
About this demo version.
ChangeMessageClass 2007 demo version works only for mailboxes whose names include "TEST".
Other mailboxes are unavailable. Also you can not register this demo version for all maiboxes at once (store-wide). The full product version has no limitations.
